Canyon De Chelly can only be traversed with a Native American guide. Ours was wise and funny and drove a mean Jeep Cherokee through rutted and muddy canyon beds. We stopped often to stand in awe viewing the ruins of the ancient ones- some 5,000 years old. At the end of the canyon we came upon Travis Terry playing his Native American flute with mastery. The echoing sounds wove the past and present together into a magical tapestry that inspired this piece. 2016
