Songs of Origin

Piano duet

Dedicated to my friend Connie Titterington, these arrangements of folk songs honor our shared Northern European heritage.

  1. Londonderry Air- An Irish folk tune later adapted to song form by an English lawyer who created "Danny Boy."

  2. Matty Groves- From England, the tale of a dangerous affair between a noblewoman and a young man. It did not end well when her husband discovered them.

  3. Tá mé' mo shuí- An Irish love song with a final stanza that captures the sentiment: "When love enters the heart, it can never be released."

  4. Fionnghuala—The mythological character Fionnghuala was cursed by her stepmother to wander Ireland as a swan with her brothers for 900 years. The song with her namesake was used to motivate poor Scottish workers and raise their spirits.
